Op 10 november wordt een symposium georganiseerd, ter ere van Prof. Dr. Harry Stroomer. Het thema van het symposium is: 'In the Shadow of Arabic. Berber, Arabic, and South Arabian. Studies in Honour of Professor Stroomer."
On Thursday 10 November 2011, LUCIS, in cooperation with the Leiden Institute for Area Studies (LIAS), and Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) organises a symposium entitled 'In the Shadow of Arabic. Berber, Arabic, and South Arabian: Studies in Honour of Professor Harry Stroomer.' Location: Plexus, Spectrumzaal, Kaiserstraat 25, Leiden. Time: 09.00-17.00. Entrance is free.
The symposium is organised in honour of Professor Harry Stroomer, who will retire this year as a Professor of Afroasiatic Languages of Arabia and Ethiopia. Professor Stroomer is a field-work oriented descriptive linguist focusing on linguistic diversity in North Africa and the Middle East. He has a warm interest in local cultures, material culture and linguistic anthropology. He did fieldwork in Egypt, Kenya, Somalia, Morocco and Yemen. He studied languages in the Semitic, Cushitic and Berber group of the Afroasiatic language family.
